"The goal was to work with the artist and involve them in the video editing and creation process" says Jeffery Mitchell of WEFUNKWEST. "I wanted to meet with an artist in their own surroundings and be able to have them pick and choose the actual pictures and video clips in the video. Not only do I get work done on the spot, but I get a sense and a feel for what the artist wants and that was my primary goal." The website chronicles the process involved in Demers 10 year plus journey to bring her idea to the big screen. The screenplay centers around the life of RUBY (speculated to be Ms. Demers) and her experiences in "finding her thing." PFUNK1.COM is deeply involved with the website development and has contributed themes and content to the website. "It was my idea to put race right up front." boasts PFUNK1. (It was he who coined "a white girl finds the FUNK" which Demers added to the title of the movie.) "I can remember how excited I got when it (the title idea) came down. I couldn't wait to tell gee-nee (Ms Demers) and I was worried if she would like it or not. To me this angle opened up her story to some really interesting possibilities that not only complimented theory and ideas I've had for years, but also should appeal to a very large target audience." Rick Warren and the Diva Miss Monica were residents of the Biltmore Hotel downtown Los Angeles. Warren plays bass for the Bay Area band 650 Connection who's latest released was produced at Poor Man Studios. Warren and Micthell attended college together in Ohio 25 years ago and have collaborated on minor music projects. |
